How to book Moraine lake shuttle? – Step by Step Guide

Have you been wondering how to book a shuttle to Moraine Lake? I’ve got you covered!

Imagine a magical place tucked away in the Canadian Rockies, where the water is a stunning shade of blue and the mountains stand tall and proud. This special place is Moraine Lake. It’s not just a spot on the map; it’s a slice of paradise that’s hard to put into words.

We recently visited Moraine Lake using the Parks Canada Shuttle and it is the most simple & cost-effective way to visit Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. In this article, we will look at how to book the Parks Canada shuttle to Moraine Lake.

Why take the Shuttle to Moraine Lake?

Parks Canada closed the Moraine Lake Road to private vehicles in 2023.

Unless you are willing to stay for a night at Moraine Lake Lodge, you cannot access the Moraine Lake road using your personal vehicle.

With cars ruled out, the only other option is to take a shuttle to Moraine Lake. It is simply the most convenient way to get to the most popular tourist destination in Banff.

Step by Step Guide on how to book Moraine Lake Shuttle

Step 1: Visit the Parks Canada Reservations page

Visit the reservations page on Parks Canada

Step 2: Select ‘Day Use’

Click on ‘Day Use’ – the last option on the right.

You will see that ‘Shuttle to Lake Louise & Moraine Lake’ is automatically selected as it is the 1st option.

Step 3: Select Park

In the drop-down below ‘Park’, select ‘Banff – Lake Louise’ as seen below.

Select your Arrival Date and the size of your Party (group).

Press ‘Search’. This will narrow down the steps.

Party size is irrespective of the age. Even if you have an infant or a toddler, count them in.

Step 4: Click on ‘Shuttle’ on the map

You will see a map with multiple options on it. Click ‘Shuttle’

Step 5: Select the Shuttle time slot

You will be shown options to choose the shuttle time slot as seen below.

You will see two sets of time slots. One for Lake Louise and one for Moraine Lake.

Let me explain. The best part about taking the Parks Canada Shuttle is that you can visit the two iconic lakes in a single day with just one ticket. Yes, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake for the price of 1 shuttle ticket.

So these time slots are to decide whether you want to visit Lake Louise first or Moraine Lake.

In reality, you will book what’s available as these slots tend to fill up quickly.

If you are lucky and you see everything available, take the Lake Louise shuttle first as it gets more crowded as the day progresses. Once you’ve seen Lake Louise, you can take the Parks Canada Connector Shuttle to get to Moraine Lake.

Now, let’s get back to the booking.

Choose a time window that works for you.

Step 6: Book the exact time slot

In the last step, you would have chosen a 4-hour time window (morning, afternoon or evening). In this step, you will book the exact time slot for your shuttle.

If you look closely, there are two rows for each time slot.

For example:

LL: 7am-8am Departures is the normal time slot that is open to book weeks in advance (early bird tickets)

LL:7am-8am (Last Minute) is open to book exactly two days before the scheduled date of departure. Tickets open at 8 am MDT.

So if you are looking to book a shuttle for Thursday, tickets will be available to book from Tuesday morning at 8 am MDT. It is on a first come- first serve basis.

In the above image, you can see that both early bird tickets and last minute tickets are available for 22nd September 2023 for 9 am to 10 a.m timeslot.

Click the ‘Tick’ mark and press the ‘Reserve’ button on the right.

You will get a popup to confirm. Acknowledge that.

Step 7: Review Reservation Details

Review the date and time once again. Click the ‘Confirm Reservation Details’ button.

Step 7: Verify Cart

You will be charged a flat $3 eco-fee per reservation irrespective of the number of tickets.

Press ‘ Proceed to Checkout

Step 8: Complete purchase

Press ‘Confirm acknowledgments’ and in the next step, you will verify your personal information

In this step, you can select ‘I will be the occupant’ if you are the one who is taking the shuttle.

Press ‘Confirm Occupant’

In this step, you will confirm the party size. Stay with me 🙂

Finally, we’ve reached the Payment screen and you know what to do.

Once the payment is processed, you will receive an email from Parks Canada with the QR code to the ticket. Phew.

That’s a lot of steps to book a shuttle ticket and despite all this difficulty, tickets get scooped up in no time as Moraine Lake and Lake Louise are bucket list destinations for anyone traveling to Canada.
